Exploring Cape Cod Lighthouses
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the iconic Nauset Light, located in Eastham. This beautiful lighthouse, with its striking red and white stripes, stands at 48 feet tall and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. We were thrilled to learn that it’s open for tours on weekends from late May to mid-October, with no admission fee. We climbed the steps for a panoramic view and snapped some incredible photos!
Another must-see is the Chatham Lighthouse. This historic site features a lighthouse that has guided mariners since 1808. You can take a leisurely walk along the beach nearby, and while the lighthouse isn’t open for interior tours, the stunning coastal scenery is worth the visit. It’s open year-round, so feel free to stop by any time!
Local Attractions and Practical Information
In addition to the lighthouses, we explored the charming town of Provincetown. The vibrant art scene and lively shops on Commercial Street made for an enjoyable afternoon. Don’t miss the Provincetown Museum, which showcases the area’s maritime history. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children, open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. The museum’s exhibits gave us a deeper appreciation for the region’s rich heritage.
For a unique experience, we took a whale watching tour, which typically runs from mid-April to October. Prices range from $50 to $75 per person, depending on the provider, and witnessing these majestic creatures up close was simply unforgettable!
Delicious Local Cuisine
Cape Cod is also known for its delectable seafood, and we couldn’t resist trying some local dishes. We enjoyed clam chowder at a local diner for about $7 a bowl—creamy and packed with flavor! For a quick lunch, we grabbed lobster rolls at a beachside shack for around $20, generously filled with tender lobster meat and served with a side of fries.
Another favorite was the fried fish sandwich, which cost us about $15 and was perfectly crispy, served with tartar sauce and coleslaw. We even treated ourselves to some homemade ice cream from a local creamery, with prices around $5 for a generous scoop.
