As the leaves start to turn and the crisp air settles in, we recently embarked on an unforgettable autumn adventure in Grand Teton National Park.

The vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold against the majestic backdrop of the Teton Range created a stunning tapestry that left us in awe.

A Scenic Drive Through Fall Foliage

One of our first stops was the Teton Park Road, a 20-mile scenic drive that offers breathtaking views of the mountains and the valley below. We visited in early October, and the fall colors were at their peak, making each turn in the road a postcard-worthy moment. The road is open year-round, but be sure to check for any seasonal closures or weather conditions before heading out.

Jenny Lake: A Must-See

We couldn't resist a visit to Jenny Lake, a highlight of the park. With its serene waters reflecting the surrounding peaks, it’s an ideal spot for photography and relaxation. We took the shuttle boat across the lake (operating daily from late May through mid-September, with hours varying by season) and hiked the scenic trails that encircle the lake. The round-trip ticket for the boat was just $20, and it was worth every penny for the stunning views!

Wildlife Watching

Autumn is an incredible time for wildlife viewing, and we were lucky enough to spot elk and moose during our visit. The best times for wildlife watching are early morning and late afternoon. Head to the Oxbow Bend Turnout; it’s a popular spot for seeing animals against the beautiful backdrop of the mountains.

The Grand Teton Visitor Center

For those looking to learn more about the park, we stopped by the Grand Teton Visitor Center, which is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM. Here, we gathered maps, information about ranger-led programs, and exhibits that helped us appreciate the area’s natural and cultural history. Admission to the park is $35 per vehicle, valid for seven days, so we made sure to take full advantage of our time there.

Preparing for Your Visit

Before we packed our bags, we made sure to dress in layers. Autumn temperatures can be quite variable, ranging from cool mornings to warmer afternoons, so we were grateful for our fleece jackets and hats. Also, as some trails may have early snow or ice, good hiking boots are essential!
